Burger and Lobster – Bread Street, St Paul’s

Burger and Lobster- Pay Day Treat!

Lauren and I have been dying to go to Burger and Lobster for so long now!  However, it’s more of a splurge than save kind of meal hence we decided to leave going until pay day – and what a treat!

My love of lobster, like ribs, comes from Canada. My first visit to Canada included a trip to Nova Scotia, a province famous for its lobster – so much so that you can hand-pick one from a swimming pool in the airport and have it put on ice to take on the plane (crazy right?)! Since then, every time I have the opportunity to eat lobster I most certainly choose to.

After our morning’s adventures at St Paul’s Cathedral, climbing the 528 steps to the Golden Gallery, Lauren and I were pretty famished and relishing the idea of food.  Burger and Lobster is renowned for vast queues, but the joy of having a weekday off work meant that we avoided all queues and were seated instantly.  There’s no menu, but the waitress informed us that we could have either burger, lobster or a lobster roll, all of which come with skinny fries and a side salad. I opted for the whole lobster whilst Lauren the lobster roll (though considering she has never tried lobster I was disappointed that she let pass this opportunity – especially since the waiter kindly proffered me a fine-looking bib to wear).

After weighty discussion as to whether we wanted cocktails (money-wise I had to sadly decline) we each went for refreshing lemonade – raspberry and grapefruit.  Utterly cool and revitalising on this hot summer’s day and after our trek up St Paul’s Cathedral!

The food arrived promptly, and wow it looked good.  I indulged in a whole lobster basted in garlic butter, and Lauren’s lobster (huge chunks of) came encased in a home-made brioche rather than an ordinary run-of-the-mill bread roll.  The fries were crispy (just how I like them) and the salad a healthy option so one doesn’t feel too guilty!  Overall, we were happy!

There’s not much more to say really; the waiters and waitresses (we were privileged to have four different people serve us, who knows why?) were friendly and we even got a personal visit from one of the chefs to take our order. I look forward to going again, perhaps to try the lobster roll (though I find it hard to resist having a whole lobster since it is by far my favourite fish).

Star rating – definitely a 5!
